Spray Paint Stencil, Vinyl Stickers, and Photograph
~ 5’ x 4’
This piece was inspired by the street art of Portland, ME, and discusses the sub-culture of street artists and tagging. By posting stickers in popular tagging spots and high traffic areas, I aimed to insert my own artwork into the scene as well as comment on the scene itself. When we recognize popular tags, we tend to form an identity for the artist in our minds, despite the fact that they don’t take direct credit for their work. Tags are an alternate identity for writers, and an anonymous outlet for creativity and expression. The spray painted stencil and design is a continuation of my exploration of the street art culture.
